About the course
Organizations today compete for markets and legitimacy in a complex, dynamic, and fast-paced context. This makes the generation and management of knowledge about the future an increasingly important part of business strategizing and acting on anticipation. Future success and the ability to thrive in tomorrow's rapidly evolving business landscape requires to stop reacting to changes, but it demands proactive thinking and action to shape it.
The course Strategic Foresight is for you being a strategy developer, decision-maker, business developer, or innovation manager.
With advanced methods from the foresight toolbox, you will be able to build resiliency and agility into your organization, staff, products, and services to redesign processes, people, and structures to prepare them for thriving in- and impacting on- the future by advancing the quality of strategic thinking, analysis, and planning.
Five constructive Fridays
The course also provides a great opportunity to connect with a diverse group of high-caliber professionals from various industries, in an expanding national network of practitioners trained in foresight.
The convenient schedule with five consecutive Fridays during the fall semester allows you to balance your professional commitments while investing in your future.
Session 1: Prediction, forecasting, backcasting, thinking in systems.
Session 2: Trend auditing, horizon scanning, black swans.
Session 3: Innovation foresight, technology roadmapping, Delphi, foresight radars.
Session 4: Scenario planning and business model stress-testing.
Session 5: Business wargaming.
Build your own case scenario
Throughout the course you will work on your own case scenario (or that of a colleague if you prefer) adjusted to the case organization, industry, and professional situation, following a hands-on philosophy.
This can anchor strategic foresight practices directly into your work, your strategies, and your organization.
This is what you learn:
- to understand how different foresight tools work.
- to decide which tool is appropriate in a situation.
- to adapt the tools and techniques to a case.
- to present recommendations rooted in a futures analysis.
- to combine strategic foresight tools with traditional planning and innovation tools.
- to reflect upon the nature and modes of the future.
Why choose this course?
You will be presented with the best and most useful models for strategic foresight – backed by research- and you will gain practical experience in choosing and using the models in your strategy work.
You will gain actionable knowledge and real-world examples through case studies, discussions with your fellow participants, and hands-on exercises. Working on your own case scenario adjusted to your own industry and professional situation will provide immediate value.
