Pandemiology Watch (December 10-16, 2025)
MPOX
Spain.
Spanish health authorities have documented the first known case of human-to-human transmission of mpox clade Ib outside Africa in a person with no travel history. The patient, a 49-year-old man in Madrid, tested positive in October 2025, who had a genital ulcer and swollen lymph nodes. He reported sexual contact with local partners, none of whom had traveled to endemic regions. This case, reported in the International Journal of Infectious Diseases, 2025, highlights the potential for clade Ib mpox to spread locally in non-endemic areas, underscoring the importance of continued surveillance, clade-specific testing, and preventive measures to control further transmission.

No new WHO data have been reported in the past week for Sierra Leone, Uganda, or Guinea. The most recent figures remain unchanged from late October and November 2025.
