Research Centre Centre for Societal Security and Resilience (SECURE)
SECURE – Centre for Societal Security and Resilience conducts research on how democratic societies can anticipate, prevent, manage, recover from, and learn from crises and extraordinary disruptions. We develop new knowledge that strengthens societal security and resilience through the governance, organisation, management and leadership of cross-sector collaboration among public authorities, businesses, civil society organisations, and citizens.
As an interdisciplinary research centre, we examine the institutional, organisational, and leadership conditions that underpin societal security and resilience. Our research focuses on crisis management, total preparedness, whole-of-society approaches to societal security, civil protection, total defence, critical infrastructure, and crisis volunteering in the context of climate-related events, pandemics, cyber threats, hybrid threats, and other complex societal crises.
SECURE's activities are organised around three interconnected core areas:
- Research: We conduct empirically grounded and theoretically innovative research in close collaboration with national and international research and practice partners.
- Education: We contribute to research-based teaching and supervision at the bachelor's, master's, and PhD levels and develop practice-oriented continuing and executive education in societal security and resilience.
- Knowledge exchange: We actively contribute to public debate, policy development, and the co-creation of solutions with public authorities, businesses, and civil society to strengthen societal security and resilience.
SECURE is hosted by the Department of Social Sciences and Business at Roskilde University.
