DataPublics presented joined panel at NordMedia2021

Yesterday, the DataPublics team took the digital stage at NordMedia as a joined panel presenting the ongoing work in the individual sub-projects as well as drawing connections across the work. The panel was the first joined presentation at a conference and received highly positive audience responses for its relevance and coherence.

The NordMedia Conference 2021 went live yesterday with the keynote by Eugenia Siapera on the importance of media activism. The first day also ended with DataPublics taking the digital stage in the Journalism Division, where all researchers involved presented their individual work while PI Jannie Møller Hartley also explained how the sub-projects complement each other in the overall study of the datafication of news and publics.

At the presentation the following works in progress were presented:

The session was moderated by Anne Kaun from Södertörns University, who also after the presentation commended the project for its individual contributions as well as for opening interesting discussions on agency across the work as she took questions from the audience.

The NordMedia conference continues today and tomorrow and several other scholars from the journalism department at Roskilde University are also presenting and taking part in the conference. Later today at four pm PI of DataPublics Jannie Møller Hartley is for example chairing a session on ‘AI, algorithms, and automation’.

Tomorrow at nine in the morning Eva Mayerhöffer and Sander Schwartz are also presenting their paper ‘Angry sharing. How affective user engagement fuels the dissemination of hyper-partisan content on Facebook’. At the same time Kim Christian Schrøder, Mark Blach-Ørsten and Mads Kæmsgaard Eberholst are taking part in a panel on ‘The role of the regional: What’s Nordic about Nordic Media Studies?’. After this at even am, the Cultural Publics project spearheaded by Ida Willig is presenting their panel ‘The Cultivation of Publics: A historical study of the opinion- and peoples pages in newspapers’.
