In front, seven people with their backs to the camera, one of them standing to the left to take a photo of the prize winner and the person who hands him the award. These two are facing the photo-taker. In the back a person standing behind a lectern.

Over the last couple of days, the AlterPublics team participated in the Annual Conference of the International Communication Association (ICA) in Gold Coast, Australia, presenting ongoing work and exchanging ideas with international colleagues across the field.

At the conference, Frederik Henriksen presented his final PhD paper, “From far-right to anti-system” in the Political Communication division. Jakob Bæk Kristensen presented a paper on computational approaches to studying news and information flows across platforms at the Computational Methods division.

We were also happy to see our incoming postdoc Salla Tuomola present research on news exposure and affective practices, bringing a complementary audience-oriented perspective to discussions of alternative and politicized information environments at the Journalism division.

ICA provided a valuable setting for feedback, networking, and strengthening collaborations around shared conceptual and methodological challenges in the study of alternative news media and digital publics.
