Fatima AlZahra’a Alatraktchi new Assistant Professor at Roskilde University’s Department of Science and Environment
30-year old Fatima AlZahra’a Alatraktchi will be working at the Department of Science and Environment at the Roskilde University. Here, she will be continuing her research into problem areas in the tension field between nanotechnology, medical and molecular biology.
Fatima AlZahra'a Alatraktchi has an M.Sc. (Eng) from the Technical University of Denmark and a PhD in nanotechnology and molecular biology. She is also an international TED-talker, multiple award winner and founder of the medico company PreDiagnose. The company is based on Fatima AlZahra’a Alatraktchi’s method for detecting bacteria, and its mission is to enable doctors to make early diagnostic calls.
Fatima AlZahra’a Alatraktchi has received several prestigious research awards, e.g. PhD of the Year at the Technical University of Denmark and the Lundbeck Foundation Talent Prize. In February 2019, she was also featured on Forbes’ ‘30 under 30 – Europe’ list, which celebrates the 300 most influential persons in their field under the age of 30.
Her TEDx Talk about using the communication of bacteria to predict pathogenic activity has been viewed more than 1.4 million times and has been subtitled into 19 different languages.
I’m fascinated by Roskilde University’s interdisciplinary approach. The core of my research is highly interdisciplinary
Fatima AlZahra’a Alatraktchi is looking forward to continuing her research at Roskilde University:
“I’m fascinated by Roskilde University’s interdisciplinary approach. The core of my research is highly interdisciplinary. I believe in problem-based research where you start with a concrete, real problem and then identify the theories and competences needed to solve the problem. In my view, this will help reduce wasted energy, and allows you to direct efforts at specific and usable output,” says Fatima AlZahra’a Alatraktchi.
Head of Department at the Department of Science and Environment, Susanne Sørensen, is excited about the employment of the new assistant professor.
“Fatima AlZahra’a Alatraktchi sees opportunities across disciplines – an ability that perfectly matches Roskilde University’s fundamental values of finding new solutions through interdisciplinary work. At the same time, she comes with a complementary profile that will further bridge the gap between technology and science. This will heighten the interdisciplinary profile of our science field as well as support the department’s strategic effort to create ground-breaking results that can only be realised through the contributions of various academic fields,” says Susanne Sørensen.
