Teaching in the fields of Permatopia
The 9th of October, 2024, Lone Riisgaard, Peter Nielsen and Jacob Rasmussen invited 20 students from the elective course ‘radical alternatives and concrete utopias’ at Roskilde University to the Danish eco-village Permatopia.
The course is directly linked to the Green Futures research project and addresses many of the conceptual and political issues we grapple with in the project. In the middle of the beetroot fields we discussed issues of degrowth and direct democracy. Taking the intellectual discussions that informs the ideological basis for many socalled alternative communities seemed to provide a useful and tangible connection for both students and lecturers.
