Language profiles at Roskilde University
RUC's Language Profiles are designed for those who want to enhance their bachelor's or master's degree with language and cultural learning in German or French.
The Language Profile serves as RUC's talent track, providing a way to integrate language and cultural learning into your regular bachelor's or master's programme. With a Language Profile, you can develop your language skills, broaden your cultural understanding, and infuse your studies with a holistic international perspective that prepares you for the job market.
You have the opportunity to:
- Explore your interest in language, society, and culture.
- Build upon your language skills from high school, study abroad experiences, and the like.
- Become a knowledge communicator in multiple languages and across various cultures.
- Learn foreign languages with a focus on reading strategies and information retrieval.
- Engage in a dynamic academic environment.
- Qualify for internships and exchange programs.
- Acquire skills demanded by the job market.
What is The Language Profile Programme?
The Language Profile Programme is a complementary course that strengthens your foreign language skills and cultural competences in an academic context.
The Language Profile Programme develops your skills to use the language for project work, student exchange, internships, student jobs or future work.
When you choose a language profile, you also learn to acquire knowledge from several linguistic and cultural areas and to communicate this knowledge in oral or written form.
The language profile is an additional qualification. Employers want students who can build bridges between different countries and cultures through language and cultural skills.
What will you learn?
Classes at The Language Profile Programme are based on current issues as well as theoretical concepts and methods that you will also encounter in your education.
- You will be supported to research, discuss, and communicate your knowledge in German or French in a safe learning environment.
- You will become better at fin-ding information and literature in German or French independently, and at reading and understanding complex texts.
- You will perform small research tasks, such as trying to interview someone in German or French, meeting online with students from another university or making an oral presentation of your analysis.
Practical information
In order to participate in the Language Profiles, you must generally already have level A or B in the relevant profile language or equivalent prerequisites, e.g. from a stay abroad.
In addition, new students are assessed at the first two teaching sessions (screening) in connection with exercises and activities. This is a requirement according to the Ministerial Order on Talent Activities (in Danish) and is a good opportunity to agree together about what you particularly want to work on during the semester.
Bachelor students need to complete three semesters of the Language Profile and Master students two semesters in order to receive the full certificate of attendance. A relevant stay abroad can replace one of the semesters of the Language Profile. The Language Profile does not provide ECTS.
