Start:13:00
End:15:30
Place: Room 02.1-123, building 02, Roskilde Universitet, Universitetsvej 1, 4000 Roskilde

As junior scholars you are expected to make yourselves familiar with the academic and cultural norms of your disciplines and research fields.

You might be advised to follow and abide by the norms to be recognized as a legitimate member of the scholarly community.

You want to fit in – you want to make yourself a successful academic career.
You might want to break and challenge the norms.

You make calculated risk analyses.

You seek strategies, tactics and smart academic survival kits.

You feel hopeful and discouraged.

You feel privileged and vulnerable.

You make yourself acquainted with the power dynamics of academia.

This seminar is curated to address the above ambivalent expectations, feelings and positions
As participant you are expected to share an experience/story of how you have encountered norms in your research community and disciplinary field.
Together we will explore the power dynamics present in our stories and seek ways to empower each other in our respective struggles.
Facilitators: Associate Professor Marta Padovan-Özdemir (IMT) & External lecturer Bushra Hanif (IKH)
