MPOX seminar October 2024

On October 1st 2024 PandemiX and Statens Serum Institut (SSI) hosted a seminar on the MPOX situation, with a focus on global public health implications and preventive measures.

As the MPOX situation was declared a Public Health Emergency of International Concern (PHEIC) by the World Health Organization in July 2024, PandemiX and SSI invited participants from all over the world to a seminar on MPOX to better understand the situation, the epidemiology and potential control measures of the MPOX outbreak.

The day started with a welcome and introductions from Tyra Grove Krause (SSI) and Lone Simonsen (PandemiX), followed by presentations on the current MPOX threat scenario, the health authority perspective and two panel discussions.

There were speakers from Redeemer's University, Nigeria, Danish Technical University (DTU), PandemiX, SSI, Bavarian Nordic, Doctors Without Borders (MSF), UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA), University of Leiden and the Danish Board of Health. With presentations on everything from the epidemiology of MPOX in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and Central Africa, to a risk assessment in a European context, the seminar provided a vast amount of knowledge on the current MPOX upsurge.

It was an informative and exciting day, and with more than 80 participants physically and virtually, the seminar was a succesfull collaboration between PandemiX and SSI.
