Many of us have loved ones having trouble with hearing, which besides having difficulties in understanding speech, eventually leads to social isolation and reduced life quality if untreated – The solution is often hearing aids. Modern hearing aids analyze the environment and even the intention of the hearing aid user and adjust the processing to optimize the ability of the user to hear as they want. This functionality is achieved by the development of signal processing algorithms, which incorporates knowledge within signal processing, applied mathematics, acoustics (physics), and the human auditory system. I will as a physicist introduce the you to our R&D work within audiological signal processing at Widex and how people with our background can apply our training within e.g. modelling, statistical physics and applied mathematics to contribute to help people hear.
