The GNSS Radio Occultation (RO) technique exploits signals from Global Navigation Satellite Systems (eg. GPS) to probe the Earth's Atmosphere. Today the GNSS RO technique provides the most accurate and precise temperature retrieval of the upper troposphere and lower stratosphere. Other methods rely on instrument calibration and inter-satellite calibration, but the RO technique is based on a geometric calculation which makes it virtually calibration free.
